On death & dying

There is no dignity in dying
With passing days, the body fades
Moans replacing words, a shell is all that remains
Glimmers of what one used to be
When does one move from living to dying?
Light of day fades, the inevitable looms

Life is for living, then waiting, then dying
Memories shared
Words once left unspoken flow freely
Those left behind grasp every moment
Torn between wanting to remain, wanting to end pain

Painful in birth, painful in death
Birthed in joy, departed to glory

There is no dignity in dying
Only peace in death

(written Sept 20, 2015, processing the death of my grandfather)
