musings

Home for Christmas

The glimmering lights as darkness descends,
Familiar notes playing their caroling tunes
Hustling and bustling, festive activities abound
Nostalgia creeps in, whispering of what has been

Memories of times round the fire
Stories told of a lifetime ago
Beholden to glorious memories
Laughter and history shared

Christmas traditions feast and fare
Mince pies, afternoon tea, rosy cheeks
Vignettes of joy, of love, of hope

Time took its toll, years ticked by
Turning pages, the lingering
Between those gone before, and those yet to come
What will lie ahead, what stories yet untold?

A weathered canvas awaits
Traces of what has been, room for what’s to come
The familiarly unfamiliar dance
New traditions and memories await

Random musings… The holidays are always a nostalgic time; it is interesting the shifts that occur in families as they grow, and age. Generations pass away, children grow up, in time to have families of their own… But in between, the wrestle between wanting to recreate the memories of what has been yet having to chart new ground, establishing new families and traditions, experiencing new cultures, creating a new sense of “home”.
